The Quiet Power of…Food? – 12/18/25

Over the past month (I’ve been deprived of this site unfortunately), my new passion is drumroll please 🥁🥁, baking! From sweet treats to burnt messes, I can consider myself a sous chef in the kitchen. Not fully a chef yet since that’s Mom’s expertise, but I think I could qualify as a backup when people are hungry in this household.

Oh right, I forgot! Happy Holidays everyone! Any holiday is a time to be celebrated with food, love, and laughter, so for the next couple of days, I will be trying my hardest to bake some delicious cookies and muffins for my family to enjoy. My sister also got into arguably one of the best universities for education in the USA, Columbia University in New York, New York. Not only are we all celebrating that huge win for her, but she also got a shift at Buffalo Wild Wings, so I guess discount for wings and big screen games from now on!

I’ve been trying to think of what I should create next, whether that is sugar cookies, banana chocolate muffins (which I have already made for the family but it won’t hurt to make some more), or gooey brookies. So far, I baked many goods starting with some burnt M&M cookies, then to some Reece’s Pieces cookies (which my dad declared “delicious”), banana chocolate muffins, triple chocolate Ghirardelli inspired brownies, and my family’s famous fluffy banana bread.

My delicious and beautiful banana chocolate muffins! Comment if I should post the recipe…

Hopefully, I’ve successfully made your mouth water, but the real reason I’m writing this post is to tell each one of you readers why baking/cooking is important to me. It teaches me about one of life’s hardest skills, patience. As I have brought up before, the first time I made M&M cookies, they turned out either burnt or undercooked. I put the undercooked ones back in the oven while cutting off the burnt pieces of the over baked cookies. They didn’t look pretty, but when has anyone’s first attempt look beautiful? I learned to have patience for the next time I baked, which were the Reece’s Pieces cookies. I made a huge mistake and added triple the amount of butter needed by accident. I was about to give up until my mother brought out the flour and extra ingredients and we got to work. Making 60 cookies was not practical, but it was helpful to know to never give up and to go slow in activities like these.

The Reece’s Pieces cookies that had too much butter!!

The next time I baked, it was the banana chocolate muffins. These were almost perfect, but some of my friends said there was too much chocolate, while my family said it tasted amazing. Baked good after good, the last thing I made was our banana bread. We never mess up the recipe, as always, it tasted perfect. Baking takes time. Sometimes smoke comes out of the oven. But sometimes, you end up with something warm and comforting at the end of a long day and that makes the patience worth it. Thank you for reading, and if you’re new to this site, feel free to check out my older posts!
